China Adoption News Update

China Adoption

Since China began placing children internationally in 1994, more the 50,000 children have joined families in America. The numbers of people touched by these adoptions: grandparents, aunt and uncles, friends, teachers easily reach into the millions. With the tremendous success of Chinese adoptions, in many ways, it has become the image and understanding of international adoption in the United States.

Chinese AdoptionAlthough adoptions from China have become common, with the high level of care for the children and the professionalism of the adoption process, the program is anything but common. The success of Chinese adoptions begins with the wonderful work of the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA). CCAA is a governmental organization in China that manages the international adoption process. The care given to the children is outstanding. The medical care and resulting medical information on the children is detailed and complete. The orphanages are well maintained and many children are cared for in foster homes. The adoption process is consistent, predictable and professional. In recent years, the program is taking longer, but is otherwise a consistent and a wonderful program.

New Beginnings opened our China Program in 1994. With CCAA being so well organized, New Beginnings best compliments their work by being organized and efficient in what we do. We have an excellent team coordinating the program. Ms. Pauline Park oversees the program. She will guide you through the program from the homestudy and dossier, through the trip to China. Ms. Gui Lan Zong will meet you and the group on your arrival in China and will assist you until your departure from Guangzhou. Gui Lan will take care of all the little details, so you can take care of the most important responsibility of all, parenting your new child.

The consistency and stability of this program is compromised slightly by a longer length of time for the adoption to be complete. The length of time for the China program is determined by CCAA and does not vary from agency to agency. Once your homestudy is complete and dossier is sent to China, the process is taking 23 months before you travel. The timing of the referral is completely dependant on CCAA and can fluctuate. New Beginnings team works closely with families to prepare your homestudy and dossier as efficiently as possible. This can reduce the total length of time by weeks if not months. But these initial stages of the process still take 3 to 5 months. As such, the total length of time to complete an adoption through the China program can be at least 2.5 years.
